Acer Aspire R14 R5-471T-71W2 REVIEW

  1. Hey man, nice job on the review.
I am actually in the market for a new laptop.

I’m mainly looking for a light, quiet laptop with an above average, vivid display.
I plan on using it for photo editing in Photoshop CS6, web browsing, some audio editing, and eventually some video editing. That being said do you think this would be powerful enough?

Also, I mostly do my gaming on the PS4 and Wii U, but it would be nice to try a few games on this. Maybe some which are a few years old, as well as emulation, MAME, etc..

  2. Nice vid! Just one doubt: is it possible to charge the battery using the usb-c (3.1) as the chromebook pixel 2 or macbooks? Thanks!

    1. +Greggles TV just for the record, so far, so good with my i5 ;] i got a discount, one week b4 the blackfriday, at a best buy store. The saler made de ‚on sale‘ price, so i got it for 649. Nice price. Nice laptop (not perfect, but still very good). I’m replacing my old Samsung RF511 15,6″ for this Acer which is more portable, lighter and way faster ;]

    2. +Greggles TV just some notes: 1) i do hear some fan noise after a while using it, which is strange, cause i thought it hasn’t any fan; 2) the screen quality is average, not big deal for me (i really don’t care); 3) there is some plastic on the edges and the material of the body leaves some fingerprints when using it, also not a problem for me. So, in the end, comparing price/specs/advantages/disadvantages i do think it’s worth it.

  3. This fits almost everything I expect from a laptop. So in terms of durability, what would you rate this? I move around a lot on a bicycle. I also want to get the i5 version of this and want to play some games on it like Blade and Soul.

    1. +Hang Nguyen battery is decent gettin 6-7 hours easily. trackpad is good no issues with it. keyboard is ok i wish it was full like my other dell laptop but otherwise its fine

  4. I recently bought the Acer converter adapter which has a VGA/LAN/USB connector and supposedly compatible with the USB Type C input port on the laptop. I should have paid more attention to the Acer page when I bought it because it didn’t list this laptop as compatible with the adapter. The PC port is a female USB Type-C but so is the adapter.

A lot of good that does.

I was specifically looking for a way to connect a regular Ethernet cable into the laptop and since this adapter won’t work, I’ll have to see what else in on the market. Any suggestions, let me know. Thanks.

    1. +Greggles TV — I ordered the Anker USB and Ethernet hub and it works real well. I connected the Ethernet with no problems. Thanks for the info.

  5. Nice review here ! i really consider this laptop as an option. but i’m really curious about its capability to handle some games (such as Total War: Rome II, Assasin’s creed black flag, and the other games) since it was the only thing left that i think need to be considered. Could you give me some clue ? i’ll really appreciate it. Thanks

  6. Hi, thank you for your review. My question: would this laptop be able to handle video editing with adobe premiere and after effect? thank you in advance for the answer

  7. Does this have enough RAM, Processing power, etc to be able to use it so I can stream PS4 gameplay using and Elgato capture card seamlessly ?

    1. You should buy the $700 model or the $930 because they have a 1920 x 1080 display and 8 gb ram. The $430 model only has 1366 x 768 display and 4gb ram.

  8. People need to realize this is not a gaming PC so if you plan on doing heavy gaming, it will run sluggish. Runs fine if you do mid to light gaming. Runs fine on photoshop and light video editing but not really sure about heavy video editing. Runs quieter than my Surface Pro 3 i5. I managed to pick this baby up for only $750 brand new and unopened box.

    1. I’m an architect, I have been using the 8gb version of this which is 700$ and it renders fine. I can even draw autocad on my screen with my stylus.

  9. Having trouble with sleep mode on mine. left for work this morning and confirmed that my wife, my toddler and my cat hadn’t touched it . returned home and I can’t get any screen response. blue and orange lights directly under the keyboard but no response other wise. would greatly appreciate any feedback ASAP as I have photos in need of editing before sending off to friends. Thank you and God bless!

  10. This laptop was on sale at Costco during Mid December 2016, got it for $499 + Tax.. Good for regular use at home and work, but need to get used to the key board with smaller keys and shallow key travel when compared to similar size laptops. Comes with ton of unnecessary 3rd party tools/software. Just need to spend time to uninstall the BS. Overall a decent laptop for this spec. (Skylake i7-6500U, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, touch screen, 1080p, USB type C port in addition other traditional ports USB2.0/3.0, HDMI and SD card slot)

  11. I picked up the i5 6200U/256 GB/8 GB version for $400 CAD second-hand as an upgrade to an old netbook. Keyboard and trackpad could be better, but those are my only complaints with this machine.
